Remove Background From Video, a video background remover
Video background removal, one clip at a time
Remove Background From Video takes a clip of up to 30 seconds, in mp4, mov or webm, and returns every frame with the background removed. There is no green screen and no keying step. You can download the result as a transparent WebM, a ProRes 4444 MOV, a green screen MP4 on flat #00FF00, or an alpha mask, and the frame size, frame rate and sound of your original are kept. It is run by Jim Liu; the contact page reaches a person.
How this video background remover works
You upload a clip, choose People or Objects & pets, and BiRefNet runs over it frame by frame. The model finds the subject in each frame and separates it from whatever is behind it, so an ordinary room works and there is nothing to key out. Both modes are the same model: People uses the version tuned for people, and Objects & pets uses the general version, for products, animals and anything else with a clear subject. Both cost the same, so you choose by what is in the shot rather than by price. BiRefNet looks at one frame at a time with no sense of the frames around it. That is worth knowing before you upload, because it is the source of the one failure you will actually see: with no temporal model holding the edges steady between frames, fast motion and motion blur can make the outline shimmer slightly from frame to frame. Slow movement and a subject that stays in focus come out clean. The same property is why a single cut-out frame comes back seconds after you upload, before you have spent anything, and why that frame is an honest preview of the finished result rather than a rough draft of it. On one 30-second 1080x1920 clip at 30 fps, measured in September 2026, a full job took about 5 minutes.
Cutting a subject out is not the same as erasing one
This tool separates a subject from its background. It does not fill a background back in. Those sound similar and they are different problems: removing a person from a shot and leaving the wall behind them looking untouched means inventing pixels that were never photographed, which is inpainting, and it needs a generative model doing a different job from the one running here. What you get from us is the subject, cleanly, with everything else made transparent or turned into green or a flat colour you chose. If your goal is a plate with someone deleted from it and the room intact, this is the wrong tool and we would rather say so here than after you have spent credits finding out. That is also why there is no page on this site promising to remove a person from a video: writing one would have drawn exactly the people this cannot help.
What it costs, and why it is priced that way
Background removal is 2 credits per second of the clip you upload, in People mode and in Objects & pets mode alike, so a 30-second clip is 60 credits. The exact cost is shown before the job starts. Credit packs are $3.99 for 200 credits, $15.99 for 1,000 and $69.90 for 5,000, and pack credits do not expire. Plus is $4.99 a month, or $54.90 for a year, and either way it grants 500 credits at the start of each month; Pro is $99 a month for 10,000. Plan credits reset when the month they were granted for ends, on the yearly plan too. Before paying anything you get up to three cut-out frames a day without signing in, and once signed in, 20 cut-out frames a day plus one 5-second watermarked video preview a day. The reason the rate is per second rather than per file is that our own bill is per second: the model runs on rented GPU time and a clip twice as long occupies it twice as long, so a flat per-export price would mean short clips paying for long ones. Charging the way we are charged keeps a 5-second cut honest at 10 credits.
What happens to the file you upload
Uploads are deleted after 24 hours and finished downloads after 7 days. Those are lifecycle rules on the storage bucket itself rather than a cleanup job somebody has to remember to run, which matters because it means the deletion happens whether or not anyone is paying attention. The practical consequence is on you: download your result before the seventh day, because after that it is gone and re-running the clip is a new job at the usual rate. If you are working on something you will need again in a month, keep your own copy rather than treating us as storage. We would rather hold your footage for a short, stated window than indefinitely, and a retention promise nobody enforces is worse than no promise, so the rules came first and this paragraph followed them.
The limits of this video background remover
A clip has to be 30 seconds or shorter and 100 MB or smaller, and the tool takes mp4, mov and webm. There is no long-form mode, and the cap is a limit of this product rather than a rounding of something longer: a two-minute interview has to be cut into pieces of 30 seconds or less, processed separately and rejoined in your editor. Free previews are processed at up to 720p; paid downloads keep the original frame size, frame rate and audio. Subjects without a clear edge are where quality falls off, and fine hair, smoke, glass and anything semi-transparent are the honest hard cases. The timing and file-size figures we publish come from one 30-second 1080x1920 clip at 30 fps, measured in September 2026, so treat them as an order of magnitude rather than a promise about your footage, and use the free frame preview on your own clip to settle it.
Who runs it
Remove Background From Video is run by Jim Liu and has been open since September 2026. It is a small operation rather than a company with a support department, which cuts both ways and you should know which way before you pay: the contact page reaches a person and not a queue, and that person is also the one who writes the code, so a bug report is read by someone who can fix it. It also means replies come within a few days rather than within minutes, and there is no phone number. Every figure quoted anywhere on this site is either measured and labelled with what it was measured on, or cited to the vendor document it came from. Where we have not checked something, the page says we have not checked it instead of guessing.
Jim Liu also built MeasureFace, a face-shape and facial-proportion tool.
